Ok this a bit of a 'humble brag', but I'm really excited that the three images I entered into this year's Professional Photographers of North Carolina print competition all merited. The competition was held at the annual Carolina Photo Expo which is in it's last day as I'm writing this blog post. What does that mean? Well, what that mean's is that, my images were judged by a panel of Professional Photographers who are trained to judge images based on the Professional Photographers of America "Competition Print 12 Elements" of an image. Story, composition, impact, color balance, lighting, subject matter are just few of the elements your being judged on for image competition.
Now beyond the fact that my images merited (yeah!) what does that mean to my clients? I think what it means that I'm striving continually to get better as image maker. Part of what I love about photography is that there is no end to learning, to getting better at your craft and in the end being better at telling my clients story through the images I create. The vehicles that I use to get better at my craft and as a small business entrepreneur is being a part of North Carolina's professional photographer organization (PPofNC) and our national organization (PPA). Every year I'm going to local and national conventions, seminars and workshops. Just like the one I'm at today here in Durham Carolina Photo Expo). I get to listen to great speakers and also network with my peers about photography. Photography is a great profession and one that I feel blessed to part of to this day.
