You are all set for your fantastic family photo session! But then a little voice in the back of your mind started mumbling..."I don't like the way I look in photographs. Maybe I should cancel?" Stop right there. Everyone is their own worst critic, and we want to help you through this feeling. Here are a few ways proven to help you look good in a photo.
1. How to look slimmer:
- Position your body at an angle to the camera, instead of straight on.
- Leave a space between your arms and your body to show your waistline.
- Stand up straight, hold your shoulders back, and don't slouch.
2. Avoid looking like a totem pole:
- Make sure your arms aren't dangling straight down -touch the person next to you or rest a hand on an object nearby.
- Slightly bend at the waist; bend wherever you can naturally (i.e. bend one knee and shift your weight to the straight leg).
3. How to down play a feature that makes you feel uncomfortable:
- If you feel your ears look big, position yourself at an angle so only one ear shows.
- If you feel like your nose is too big, tilt your head up slightly.
- If you want to avoid a shiny complexion, apply powder to face and/or neck.
- If you feel you eyes are too small, consider wearing false eye lashes.
- If you want to prevent a double chin, avoid looking down.
Most importantly, relax (act a little silly, maybe tell jokes to get everyone laughing) and have fun (jump or tickle the kids) this will make the photo appear more natural and less stiff.
